July 2009: RapidHost Acquired by Innovise plc

Marlow, UK – 30th July: RapidHost Limited, provider of managed hosting services since 1999, today announces that it has been fully acquired by Innovise plc (quoted on AiM).

Innovise is a fast growing supplier of IT solutions with two divisions: Innovise Enterprise Service Management and Innovise Software & Solutions. RapidHost will join the Software & Solutions division and will be combined with Innovise’s existing managed service practice by the end of 2009.

“This change in ownership offers RapidHost’s customers a great future,” said Iain Robertson, Managing Director, RapidHost Limited.  “Innovise has greater financial resources to support investments in technology, service and skills.  Combining Innovise’s managed service business with that of RapidHost will enable the enlarged business to supply a much broader range of professionally delivered managed services.”

“This is an exciting acquisition for Innovise,” said Mike Taylor, CEO of Innovise.  “It enables us to integrate RapidHost’s system hosting capability within our existing Software & Solutions division with two significant gains. Firstly, in our fast-growing ‘Software as a Service’ business, RapidHost will allow us to improve and differentiate our offering versus competitors that lack hosting applications. Secondly, the addition of system hosting to the remote management capabilities of our Managed Service practice means that we can now offer the full spectrum of services to existing and new clients.”

July 2009: SaaS Seminar With FileMaker UK A Great Success

RapidHost Limited, in combination with FileMaker UK, ran a seminar at FileMaker Uk's offices to address the upcoming area of computing architecture known as Software as a Service (SaaS).  The seminar was oversubscribed and needed to be run twice on the same day to accomodate all the delegates.

"The event was a great success," said Iain Robertson, Managing Director, RapidHost Limited.  "We had double the number of delegates than we had planned for and the feedback from attendees was excellent.  Guest presenters from Virtuous Systems and TimeHarvest showed how that were using the SaaS approach to enhance their businesses and the seminar closed with a real-time demonstration of a FileMaker application running in a Microsoft Remote Desktop Services environment."

Our thanks go to FileMaker UK for hosting the seminar on the day as well as managing the invitation logistics.

June 2009: Hosted Exchange 2007 Service Enhanced With Double-Size Mailbox Storage

RapidHost Limited, provider of managed hosting services since 1999, announces that it has enhanced its hosted Microsoft Exchange 2007 service by increasing the storage space per mailbox from 1GB to 2GB.

"With the constant increase in email traffic we felt that storage capacity would be an area of concern for the future," said Iain Robertson, Managing Director, RapidHost Limited. "So we decided to act now and improve our Hosted Exchange offer to 2GB per mailbox.  This makes our £10/month/mailbox fee very attractive in the market."

Hosted Exchange 2007 has many benefits, including;

  • Work from anywhere at any time with full access to your emails, folders, contacts, calendars, and files from any internet-enabled computer.  Access email in real time from your BlackBerry, iPhone or other mobile device
  • Increase productivity with Exchange 2007 hosting by scheduling meetings with colleagues in seconds by viewing everyone’s free and busy times, eliminate resource conflicts with conference rooms or equipment, share files, emails, contacts and calendars across departments or companies through Outlook 2007 and prevent unwanted spam with client and server-side spam filtering
  • Ensure 24 x 7 data security and uptime with round-the-clock server monitoring and maintenance and an uptime guarantee
  • Save thousands of pounds in today’s tough economic times by not having to purchase expensive hardware and software, train IT staff on new Exchange 2007 requirements or hire additional personnel to support the technology

April 2009: Immediate Availability of HP Proliant Dedicated Servers from £66 per month with NO Setup Fee

RapidHost Limited, provider of managed hosting services since 1999, announces the immediate availability of HP Proliant hardware-based Dedicated Servers starting at just £65.43 per month with no set up fee.

The Dedicated Servers feature quad core Xeon processing (2.0GHz), 2-8GB RAM, 72GB-1TB Disk, choice of Windows or Linux operating systems and unlimited data traffic at 10Mbps.

“Choosing a hosted Dedicated Server can be very difficult,” said Iain Robertson, Managing Director, RapidHost Limited.  “Each hosting provider displays sample prices, but never in a comparable way.  We’ve decided that the best way is the most open way – so we’ve exposed all of our prices in an online configurator and the customer can fine tune their server specification with the full price being updated as they go.  There are no hidden extras … the price you see is the price you pay.”

The £65.43/month Dedicated Server (without set up fee) is a standard entry price from RapidHost and not a time-limited special offer.

March 2009: A Free ‘Try-Before You Buy’ for Managed Hosting of FileMaker 10 Server Advanced

RapidHost Limited, provider of managed hosting services since 1999, announces the availability of free 14 day ‘try before you buy’ offer to FileMaker developers.

The company has set up a shared server running FileMaker 10 Server Advanced and will allow FileMaker developers to upload their databases to test them in that environment.  Only five organisations will be allowed to share the service at any one time.

The shared service runs in a Virtual Private Server (VPS) that is running Microsoft Windows 2008.  The VPS is managed through Microsoft’s Hyper-V virtualisation technology and is located at RapidHost’s UK data centre in Slough.

The ‘try before you buy’ offer runs until the end of May 2009.

“We’re often asked about FileMaker functionality and performance in a hosted environment,” said Iain Robertson, Managing Director, RapidHost Limited.  “Well now FileMaker developers can try it our for themselves for 14 days at no cost at all.  All they need to do is to contact me directly and I’ll give them the technical details.  At the end of the 14 days their access is removed and all data securely deleted.”

February 2009: Immediate Availability of a £15/Month Managed Windows Virtual Private Server

RapidHost Limited, provider of managed hosting services since 1999, announces the immediate availability of a fully working Windows Virtual Private Server for just £15 per month with no set up fee.

The VPS features quad core Xeon processing (1.6GHz), 256MB RAM, 10GB Disk, Windows 2003, AVG anti-virus protection and unlimited data traffic at 10Mbps.

A faster processor version (2.5GHz) with 512MB RAM and 20GB Disk capable of running either Windows 2003 or 2008 is available at £29/month.

RapidHost uses Microsoft’s Windows 2008 Hyper-V for its virtualisation technology which delivers a wide range of technical benefits to both RapidHost and VPS users.

“The server hosting market is full of confusing offers,” said Iain Robertson, Managing Director, RapidHost Limited.  “There are amazing headline prices that become less and less attractive as you try to configure a genuinely usable Windows system.  With our offer we decided to include the Windows licence and anti-virus protection in the base price so that our customers can have a realistic server at the £15/month price.”

The £15/month VPS (without set up fee) is a standard price from RapidHost and not a time-limited special offer.

*Windows 2008 is also available on the 1.6GHz server but requires a minimum of 512MB RAM, at an additional cost of £9/month.

All prices quoted exclude VAT

February 2009:  Immediate Availability of Managed Hosting for FileMaker 10 Server and Server Advanced

RapidHost Limited, provider of managed hosting services since 1999, announces the immediate availability of managed hosting for FileMaker 10 Server and Server Advanced.

The company offers online purchase of managed FileMaker services from both its www.hostfilemaker.com and www.rapidhost.co.uk websites.

Customers can opt to use FileMaker 10 Server Advanced through a shared service, a Virtual Private Server (VPS) or a customer-built server environment.  FileMaker 10 Server is available on a VPS service only.

As well as making FileMaker 10 available, RapidHost has changed the pricing of its shared server service for new customers to include up to five FileMaker databases rather than just one.

“We’ve kept the monthly fees the same as with FileMaker 9,” said Iain Robertson, Managing Director, RapidHost Limited.  “But for shared users we’ve increased the number of databases that they can have at the £19 per month level.  Previously it would cost an extra £20 per month per database for the second and subsequent databases.  Now we include up to five databases within the base price and only charge an extra £20 per month for a further five databases.  This will save a new customer with five FileMaker databases an amazing £80 per month”.

*There is a standard set up fee of £50 + VAT for managed FileMaker services bought from www.hostfilemaker.com
